# Lil Durk Allegedly Told Quando Rondo Camp “Take the Peace of the Switch” in New Court Docs Ahead of Murder Trial

A federal filing entered days before Lil Durk's murder for hire trial alleges that the Chicago rapper rejected an attempt by an affiliate of Quando Rondo to end their feud. Prosecutors cite a December 25, 2022 text message and voice recording in which Durk allegedly said he would not get on the phone to "squash" the rivalry, then added, "call me [a]bout peace[,] take the peace of the switch."

The passage appears in Document 587 of *United States v. Banks*, filed August 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. A photographed page of the filing circulated through [the Say Cheese X post](https://x.com/SaycheeseDGTL/status/2089509451208294531) and identifies the defendant as Banks, Lil Durk's legal surname. The filing says an affiliate of "T.B.," understood in the case record to be Tyquian Bowman, better known as Quando Rondo, reached out seeking "peace."

Prosecutors say Durk responded, "I'm not hopping on the phone to squash," because the dispute was "for thang and von." The names appear to refer to his brother Dontay "DThang" Banks Jr. and fellow Chicago rapper Dayvon "King Von" Bennett, both of whom were killed before the messages were allegedly sent. The government argues that the later reference to a "switch" meant a machine gun like the one allegedly used in the August 19, 2022 shooting at the center of the federal case.

[HotNewHipHop's account of the filing](https://www.hotnewhiphop.com/1006258-lil-durk-quando-rondo-peace-offering) reproduces the disputed line and says prosecutors tied it to the weapon used in the Los Angeles attack. HipHopWired separately reported that the filing describes Durk rejecting the peace approach in messages to alleged co-conspirators. Neither report changes a basic legal point: the quoted messages are prosecution allegations, and a jury has not decided what they prove.

The underlying shooting happened near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. Prosecutors allege that masked gunmen opened fire on a vehicle carrying Quando Rondo, killing his cousin Saviay'a "Lul Pab" Robinson. Federal investigators say the attack was retaliation for King Von's November 2020 death outside an Atlanta nightclub.

The government has accused Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, and several alleged associates of arranging travel and resources for the Los Angeles attack. The [Justice Department's superseding indictment announcement](https://www.justice.gov/usao-cdca/pr/chicago-rapper-lil-durk-charged-superseding-indictment-alleging-murder-hire-plot-kill-rival) states that the alleged target was a rival rapper whose associate had been involved in King Von's killing. Robinson died at the scene, while Quando Rondo survived. Durk's circle has faced other losses, including the [reported killing of his longtime friend Gleesh in Chicago](https://buzzwiredaily.com/lil-durks-friend-gleesh-reportedly-shot-and-killed-in-chicago-details-emerge/).

Durk has pleaded not guilty. His lawyers have challenged the government's reading of music, messages and associations, while prosecutors have continued adding evidence and allegations ahead of trial. The latest filing gives the jury another disputed piece of the government's timeline: an alleged peace overture months after the shooting, followed by words prosecutors portray as continued hostility.

The phrase now driving social media coverage carries weight because it appears in a filed court document, not because it settles the case. Prosecutors still must authenticate the message, establish who sent it, explain its context and connect it to the charged conduct. Durk's defense will have the opportunity to contest each step when the evidence is presented in court.

The trial is expected to focus on whether Durk knowingly ordered or financed the 2022 attack. Document 587 suggests prosecutors also want jurors to consider what he allegedly said afterward. For now, "take the peace of the switch" remains an allegation quoted by the government, not a judicial finding or a verdict.
