Investigators say the scheme worked through a fraudulent listing for a vacant parcel of land in Orange City, a small Volusia County town about an hour northeast of Orlando. According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, victims wired what they believed were closing funds into escrow accounts that were actually shell accounts tied to stolen identities. The 36-year-old Jackson is identified by investigators as a New York resident, a detail that puts distance between her and the alleged crime scene.
