Brazilian TikTok creator Maria Eduarda Alves dos Santos, better known as Duda Alves, died on September 13 at the age of 22, just days after she posted a final video discussing her recovery from a breast reduction. Her family confirmed the death two days later on September 15, and the Civil Police of Brazil’s Federal District opened an investigation the same week. UOL first reported that the cause of death had not been publicly disclosed. A source close to the family had earlier told reporters the same.
Alves had built a following of more than 750,000 on TikTok, where she had collected roughly 27 million likes on short videos about her daily life, her boyfriend Enrico, and a recurring series listing things she disliked. Her last post, on September 9, came about three weeks after her surgery and pushed back at critics she described as ‘sleazy men’ who had commented on her decision. She said in the video that she chose the operation for comfort and aesthetic reasons after years of discomfort wearing workout clothes. An earlier recovery video, dated September 8 by People, described weeks of pain, frequent vomiting, and crying that she said had not let up. The final video got 1.2 million views.
The Civil Police of the Federal District told People they were investigating the death as a suicide and declined to provide further detail, citing the privacy of the family. IBTimes, citing Brazilian reporting, stressed that the line of investigation is not a final public finding and that no authority has linked the surgery itself, her recovery symptoms, or her medical treatment to her death. The outlet added that it would therefore be inaccurate to suggest that a recent operation explains how Alves died. Brazilian police have not commented further.
Alves’ body was viewed at São João Paulo II Parish in Brasília on the morning of September 15, and she was buried later that day at Campo da Esperança Cemetery. Singer Maria Xabah, a friend of the creator, shared video of the farewell on social media. Alves’ father spoke while holding pink and white balloons, which relatives later released. ‘Beyond the love of her parents, she had the love of friends, and how important that is in our lives. Thank you,’ he said in remarks posted online. The balloons drifted over the trees.
Clarissa Pavie, a friend, described Alves as ‘calmness, authenticity with a touch of acid humour’ and wrote that her friend had ‘held my hand when I needed you.’ Her cousin Geovana Alves remembered years filled with laughter, trips, conversations, and shared plans. Dexerto, which first flagged her death online, noted that Alves is the most recent in a string of influencer deaths involving plastic surgery.
